Often yes, at least when it comes to a complete multivitamin and mineral formula (MVM) but if you are purchasing singular vitamins like vitamin C, E, D, etc. it may not be true. You need to know what you’re shopping for, including the necessary dosage and form of the vitamin(s), before you can make a buying decision. Once you have that information the price will be right IF the product has exactly what you are looking for. Your common “drug store” cheap MVM is probably not ideal, meaning that’s an example of a very low-priced product that you are getting what you pay for – i.e. probably not the right forms or dosages. In fact the biggest MVM manufacturers (also the cheapest) were recently fined by the FTC for false claims because the dosages used did not match clinical evidence. Doing the due-diligence on formulations and the manufacturing processes is something most people don’t have the time or expertise to perform. Therefore if you are looking for health and fitness support through supplements and want full product disclosure (rationale for use, safety, contraindications, etc.) you can click the link below to the dotFIT Supplement Reference Guide (SRG) that is used by all our sport/health professionals and published by our Scientific Advisory Board and R&D team.
