As a wrestler, how can I manage my weight year round?

On Wednesday, February 13, 2019

You need to pay attention to your desired weight year-round by weighing regularly and adjusting your daily calories according to undesired weight changes. Managing your weight year-round is key for all athletes where the sport dictates their weight. But often making an "unnatural weight" with the goal of gaining a competitive advantage is not the best idea for maximizing energy stores. In other words, you may sacrifice energy, power and ultimately your performance to make a lower weight where you think you have a better chance of winning.

Therefore you need to establish the weight where your body fat is as low as possible while you feel at your strongest and can maintain high energy during matches. Once there, you can maintain this weight during the off-season and maximize training outcomes. With your weight now very close to your desired weight class, you can cut a few pounds comfortably the last weeks (no more than 1-2/week depending on our size) by dropping calories and temporarily altering your hydration level the last 1-2 days. Using the dotFIT program, you can design your ideal weight management plan including ideal athletic menus individualized for you with proper protein requirements, meal timing and complete food plans. Simply fill in your personal statistics, set your weight goal and create your program. The program will guide you step-by-step to your desired weight. Each week when you enter your weight, the program will give instructions on proceeding to the goal.
