Actually the right combination of foods (e.g. fibrous foods along with an appropriate protein and fat percentage of total calories, etc.) will help control appetite better than any supplement. BUT there are some supplements with the right ingredients that can help. In other words, when you have done what you can with diet, you can supplement to help further control hunger.

Caffeine, Yerba Mate, Guarana seeds, Green tea leaf extract (EGCG) and Cayenne fruit (Capsaicin) have demonstrated positive results in suppressing appetite and increasing fat oxidation (using fat for energy needs). Additionally, these ingredients can also increase the user’s total daily calorie burn through increasing thermogenesis (increasing metabolism through wasting calories/fat as heat) and by stimulating a desire to increase spontaneous physical activity through enhanced alertness and stimulation of the central nervous system. All these attributes can enhance diet-induced weight loss. Taken together, these functional ingredients have the potential to produce significant effects on metabolic targets such as satiety (increasing fullness), thermogenesis and fat oxidation. These types of supplements are not appropriate for people with adverse reactions to stimulants. Also, Phase 2®, a proprietary extract of the bean Phaseolus vulgaris, contains phaseolamin, which can block the action of alpha amylase, the enzyme that breaks down carbohydrates and allows them to be absorbed into your body. Using this ingredient allows the satisfaction of carbohydrate consumption but not all the calories. Five hundred to 1000 mg of this natural extract has been shown to reduce the absorption of starches (thus calories), resulting in significantly greater weight loss in studies when compared to a placebo. Also citrus pectin has the ability to slow the emptying of a meal from the stomach, allowing a longer feeling of fullness. Meal replacements containing fiber can also help with appetite by giving you more fullness for less calories when used daily. Click on “dotFIT Supplements” for more information.
