Is losing weight really only about consuming fewer calories than you’re burning?

On Wednesday, February 13, 2019

Question:  Is losing weight really only about consuming fewer calories than you’re burning? Isn’t there a role that nutrition plays in weight loss?

Answer:  When it comes down to it – the calories you burn and consume daily determine your weight. So – if you need to eat 1,500 calories to lose weight it doesn’t matter what you eat from a pure weight loss standpoint. However, your food choices affect the way you feel. Certain foods help you feel full longer which can help you manage your appetite and stick to your weight loss plan. Some foods may make you feel sluggish and less inclined to move. From a health standpoint, a diet rich in whole grains, fruits and vegetables provides more nutrients than a diet with mostly processed, high fat foods.  For weight control, selecting foods that make you feel satisfied and energized will likely yield the best results. In any case, weight loss is ultimately determined by calories.
